Euryanthe is really obscure - hardly ever done. There is an old CD with Jessye Norman, Rita Hunter and Nicolai Gedda. No such shakes here.
The libretto is hopelessly imbecilic. But the music, ah the music. Just dull your brain a little - don't look too closely at the plot and you will have an enjoyable evening. The singers are adequate. Fogasova is a little squally but then again she is the villain. Scheibner is a cardboard scoundrel complete with sneers and raised eyebrows. The production ... Read More
