When I complained to Gomadic, they stated that battery manufacturers have increased the diameter of their batteries by a few thoudandths of an inch in order to increase capacity. The design of the compartment for this device is so tight that the additional few thousandths of an inch multiplied by four makes the battery holder about .020 inch too small. The main weakness is that with standard AAs it is slow to charge the Kindle above 80%. It will take my Kindle from flat to 80% in about an hour, but it takes another six hours to register as 100%.
