She has not had any problems with the chain. This is a universally good gift idea for jewelry lovers since the design can fit into any style of jewelry; if they like traditional, modern or romantic -- I think it could please many different tastes. Particularly, the silver chain was too delicate so I got a sturdier chain (a black string) to go with it instead. The clasp on the necklace is simple and not as sturdy.
