Editorial Review: Product Description: Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 10/10/2006 Rating: Nr Amazon.com: The half-hour documentary about 1980s television that accompanies this Simon & Simon - Season One box set does the show itself no favors. By profiling several other series of that era, it puts Simon & Simon right in its proper perspective: i.e., not as inane as, say, The A-Team or Knight Rider, but nowhere near as cool or ground-breaking as Miami Vice, as engaging as Quantum Leap, or as charming as Magnum P.I.. Not that this series about private investigating brothers A.J. (Jameson Parker) and Rick (Gerald McRaney) Simon is bad; like '80s San Diego, where it takes place, it's pleasant, laid-back, and not especially sophisticated. The rapport between the mismatched siblings has a certain roguish charm (A.J., the younger one, is fairly strait-laced and fastidious, while Rick is his loose cannon foil) that's reflected in the overall tone, as the brothers, who aren't exactly at the top of the heap in their profession, pursue killers, kidnappers, computer hackers, crooked concert ticket brokers, and such. But overall, this is tame stuff, even considering its tongue-in-cheek intentions. It's hard to imagine that viewers used to the higher production values, more graphic and intense content, and "keeping it real" vibe of new millennium cop dramas will be riveted by Simon & Simon's relentlessly lightweight and low-tech style; the sets are cheesy, the writing is drab, the villains are one-dimensional, and aside from the two stars, the acting is by and large on a Grade B level. On the other hand, those who abhor today's TV for the very reasons mentioned above might well prefer a gentle walk down memory lane and/or a slice of undemanding escapism, and this basic four-disc, 13-episode set will surely provide it. --Sam Graham Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Dated but fun !The first two seasons of Simon & Simon are definitely the weakest of the entire series. It got much grittier and tougher as the show continued. Season 1 is still a lot of fun to watch ! Rating: - Simon & Simon, I Love This Show! This series was a hit during the '80s. I caught a few episodes here and there, but wasn't a die hard fan. I have recently seen some repeats on satellite and I love it. The chemistry between the two brothers is great. Their adventures are fun. They thrive on intrigue and trouble. The stories are usually predictable and corny, but it beats all the violence and gore we see on TV today. I am only sorry that out of nine seasons, only season one is currently available. Rating: - Fantastic show. Season 2 coming in a few monthsI am really enjoying rewatching this seris. I love season 1, but was afraid that we would see no other seasons. Now season 2 is coming out from Shout Factory. They tend to finish the series they start, so we should see all seasons released over the next few years. Rating: - Season 2 - Simon & Simon Coming Soon !!!!!!!!!!!!!......Shout! Factory has licensed season 2 from Universal Studios. This could lead to licensing all seasons from Universal going forward so when it comes out on DVD, BUY IT !.......Season 2 is being released Feb. 10, 2009. Rating: - Lightweight? You Bet! But Breezy Fun..."Simon & Simon" was never the critics' darling, over it's eight-season run, as it didn't offer sexy leading men, or gritty, down-beat plots (at least until the final season). But it's many loyal fans found in it the perfect recipe of charm, humor, and light-hearted entertainment, and "Simon & Simon - Season One" is a wonderful reminder of a simpler time, and two very likable brothers. Rick Simon (future "Major Dad" star Gerald McRaney) is a flaky, gonzo-style detective in a cowboy ... Read More Browse for similar items by category:
