Editorial Review:

Description:
Meet Doogal, an adorable candy-loving mutt on a mission to save the world. In this delightful 3D computer-animated adventure, Doogal must prevent the evil sorcerer Zeebad (Jon Stewart) from freezing the earth forever. Joining Doogal (Daniel Tay) on his quest are pals Dylan (Jimmy Fallon), a guitar-playing rabbit, Ermintrude (Whoopi Goldberg), an opera-singing cow, and Brian (William H. Macy), a bashful snail. Hopping on a magic train (Chevy Chase), they travel over ice-capped mountains, navigate fiery pits of lava, and sail across vast oceans on the journey of a lifetime. Along the way, they learn that the most powerful weapon of all is their friendship – which even Zeebad’s magic cannot destroy.

Amazon.com:
A herd of American celebrities--from Whoopi Goldberg to Kevin Smith--have been corralled to redub Doogal, formerly a CGI cartoon from England called The Magic Roundabout based on a French stop-motion tv show from the 1960s called Le Manege Enchante. The title character is a dustmop with a face--presumably a dog of some sort--whose craving for sweets inadvertently traps his beloved owner Florence in a frozen carousel and unleashes an evil wintry wizard named Zeebad (voiced by Jon Stewart, The Daily Show). Doogal and his ragtag group of friends--singing cow Ermintrude (Goldberg, Sister Act), hopeful snail Brian (William H. Macy, Fargo), slacker rabbit Dylan (Jimmy Fallon, Fever Pitch), and a choo-choo train (Chevy Chase, Fletch)--must find three enchanted diamonds to stop Zeebad and bring spring back to the world. Presumably, Doogal's target audience is the very young, yet the dialogue (rewritten for the American market) is crammed with allusions to adult fare like Saturday Night Live and Pulp Fiction. In fact--though it may have seemed differently with the original script--the entire movie comes across as an ungainly patchwork stitched together from scenes fromThe Wizard of Oz, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Matrix, Ice Age, and much more. The effect is not so much funny as inexplicable. Also featuring the voices of Judi Dench (Iris), Ian McKellen (X-Men), and pop star Kylie Minogue. --Bret Fetzer

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - We've re-watched it, can't be that bad!
I've read some of the other reviews, and I agree that it's not a masterpiece, but the kids really enjoy it. It's colorful, and it has good messages for kids (unlike a lot of cartoons on TV). Biggest problem is that Doogal isn't likable, but many of the characters are- like the toy soldier and moose. If you can tolerate the beginning, and don't expect a classic, you may like it too.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - My 3 year old boy LOVES it
All of the comments that pan this movie are right on. It's cheesy, predictable, and derivative at best. There is no character development. So much so, that the plot doesn't even make sense at first. But this movie is based on a series of popular books and a resulting television series in the UK, so it's assumed the viewer already knows all about it. So the movie doesn't stand on your own... unless you're THREE. If you have a 3 year old boy who likes innocent things like Thomas the Tank Engine, this ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - PAINFULLY BAD!
If I could give this movie less than 1 star, I would.

I saw this movie a few summers ago as part of a free summer screening series at a local theater. I thought it would be fun to take my two youngsters out to a wholesome G-rated movie...I'm STILL regretting the time spent there that I'll never get back.

I could not remember the name of this film and spent the last 20 minutes searching for it just so I could warn others to turn away...don't look directly at it! I am not a ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Kids Movie
My 3 year old and I watched Doogal for the first time about 6 months ago and we loved it. It was a really good movie with a great cast. You can't go wrong with characters with a name of ZeeBad (Jon Stewart) and Zippity. It was on Demand (Comcast cable) and my son watched it more than 10 times. He has not seen the movie for about 3 months now, but he keeps asking me about it and that is why I am buying it today. I am actually shocked about the bad reviews.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Please do not buy this for your children
It is awful.
Pay no attention to the actors giving voices to this movie.
It doesn't make this movie worth your time, much less your money.
