I used mine to hook up my XM radio to the back of my aftermarket head unit. The FM modulator built into the unit was ok, but you still had squeal and static noise. Especially when you got into areas where there are radio stations on the same frequency. It was a pain to constantly change the channel. When I first tried to do this I got hum, presumably due to a ground loop. With this device added, which I assume is an isolation transformer, the hum is gone and the sound quality is good.
