Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
In the moody prologue, amid a raging storm that evokes Hollywood golden-age high-seas swashbucklers, a foreboding scroll recounts the legend of one of the bloodiest pirates in the history of the Caribbean. Leave it to Disney to turn him into a fun-loving old prankster with a whimsical side. Peter Ustinov mugs shamelessly as the bombastic but harmless apparition who renounces his wicked ways to become the mischievous school spirit of the local college, much to the annoyance of straight-arrow track coach Dean Jones. Made in the heyday of Disney’s live-action family comedies, Blackbeard's Ghost is all haphazard but high-energy slapstick and squeaky-clean romance (courtesy of contemporary schoolmarm Suzanne Pleshette) performed with more gumption than grace, but there’s a nostalgic innocence to the whole overplayed affair. --Sean Axmaker

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great movie!
As enjoyable as I remembered it as a kid. My son loves it now too!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Doesn't work
I have tried to read this DVD in three different units and it will not read in any of them. What to do??

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good Vintage Disney
I enjoyed this movie, as it is Disney in its golden era (60's and 70's). Ustinov as Blackbeard was a bit over-the-top in his acting, but Dean Jones and Suzanne Pleshette were wonderful, as always. I would recommend this film for the kids of today; they just don't make 'em like this anymore.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - a great twist into the "life" of a ruthless pirate
This has been one of my favorite movies since I was a small child. My husband is a huge pirate finatic and Edward Teach "Blackbeard" is one of his favorites. When I first showed him this movie he loved this Disney twist on one of the most greusom pirates ever to sail the Spanish maine. Without stripping any of his authorotative persona Disney found a kid friendly (young or old) way to portray one of my favorite "villans" of all time.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Another title: "How a comedy movie should be"
This is just a masterpiece of comedy movies! In the same words of Peter
Unistov as Blackbeard, it seems that people don't know how to have fun
anymore nowadays. I think that's the reason why I never saw many
excellent comedies like that anymore. I love to see a great piece in the
big screen, one of those who give us some reflection of life, some
outstanding lines, epic portrayals of great men of our history and
everything. But I also LOVE to strike a great laugh ... Read More
