Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Cute but silly, this 1983 cautionary fantasy stars Matthew Broderick as a teenage computer genius who hacks into the Pentagon's defense system and sets World War III into motion. All the fun is in the film's set-up, as Broderick befriends Ally Sheedy and starts the international crisis by pretending while online to be the Soviet Union. After that, it's not hard to predict what's going to happen: government agents swoop in, but the story ends up in the "hands" of machines talking to one another. Thus we're stuck with flashing lights, etc. John Badham (Saturday Night Fever) directs in strict potboiler mode. Kids still like this movie, though. The DVD release has a widescreen presentation, theatrical trailer, Dolby sound, director commentary, optional English, French and Spanish subtitles. --Tom Keogh

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - (In early 80's computer voice!) SHALL WE PLAY A GAME???
Classic 80's movie with a brand new 25th Anniversary Ed. DVD!!! Great transfer of this classic film with great sound and a nice heaping of extras!!! Thanks MGM Home Entertainment!!! A worthy upgrade from the original DVD release from the late 90's A+ Classic stuff indeed!!!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Delightful revisiting of Enjoyable Film
The extra features add to the enjoyment of a well done film. Young, at the time stars, Broderick and Sheedy tell of this an early film in their careers. Director's and technical comments reveal how innovative and revolutionary this film was. Story of the plot's research and development process is fascinating. Shared this film with spouse and friend and we enjoyed the look back and the well told story again.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - An 80's film that holds up well
A fun film to watch whether for nostalgic reasons, or just to view. The youthful Brodrick and Sheedy in early film roles did a great job of carrying this film. The plot was timely for its day and still manages to make a statement today. And in todays world of laptops and cell phones its a hoot to see what I thought in 1983 was some pretty impressive high tech gizmos. The 25th Anniversay DVD looks fully restored, sound great and has a few fun to watch extras.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - If you want the score...
If you like the score and want to own it, go to the Intrada Records website. They released a very limited run, only 2500 copies, that is only sold directly from them. It is the entire score and not just a selection of pieces. The release is officially in cooperation with MGM, and not a bootleg. The sound quality is really quite fantastic and it is definitely worth the cost.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Careful, this new version is not anamorphic
More marketing guff from the studios. THIS IS NOT ANAMORPHIC EVEN THOUGH A "NEW" RELEASE. DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE A WIDE SCREEN TV.
