It is a typical "tragic closeted homosexual" film ala "Ode to Billy Joe" and others of that time period. But what struck me was the sheer grandeur of the movie. Someone spent big buck$$ to make this film a visual feast--location, period pieces, costumes, hair, jewelry, and top notch talent (except Leslie Browne). Have not since seen a gay-themed movie that matches the splendour of this movie. Would give five stars for a DVD version. Especially interesting is the wonderful Carla Fracci who was not only a great ballerina but a great actress. Even George was good.
