Editorial Review: Product Description: Richard gere is electrifying in his portrayal of julian kay an amerigan gigolo. But julians love-for-sale lifestyle turns deadly when a client is murdered and julian becomes the prime suspect. Special features: english subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing interactive menus and much more. Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 03/19/2002 Starring: Richard Gere Lauren Hutton Run time: 116 minutes Rating: R Director: Paul Schrader Amazon.com: Writer-director Paul Schrader viewed this as the second part of a trilogy that began with Taxi Driver and concluded with Light Sleeper--each dealing with a lonely man trying to deal with both his own dizzily spinning moral compass and the hypocrisy of the society that's trying to tell him what to do. Richard Gere plays a high-priced prostitute, an immaculately dressed stud for hire who services the bored women of Beverly Hills without ever allowing himself to be touched emotionally. His affair with a politician's wife (Lauren Hutton) changes that, at a point when he is being framed for a murder he didn't commit. Even as he tries to elude the law, he allows himself to become enmeshed with her in unexpected ways. Too cool and distant for some viewers, the film has a distinctive look and deliberate pacing--and about two endings too many. But it will keep you watching in spite of yourself. --Marshall Fine Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Speak in a normal tone of voice, pleaseI was weary of turning the volume up and down during this movie. Richard Gere is either mumbling or yelling. Lauren Hutton was whispering the whole time. Although I thought she was great for the part, with her androgynous looks that would appeal to a line-straddler such as Julian Kaye, she needed more acting lessons. She appeared nervous -- more nervous than her character required. I would have liked to see Julian with one of his older clients, doing what he apparently does best. The movie got ... Read More Rating: - Gearing Up for the Big TimeI like American Gigolo. It's a simple film to watch, and a film that wouldn't be out of place in a made for TV movie line up today (Scandal! Sex! Drugs! Politicians!). Naturally, the main reason to watch this is Richard Gere who was up and coming ala James Dean, and vital eye candy at the time. It would take him a few more years to be taken seriously as an actor but there's a wicked pleasure in watching Richard Gere fit this role perfectly. It feels like he's working the audience, the camera ... Read More Rating: - Good movieThanks for the fast delivery. I have been looking for this movie, but I never expected to find it on Amazon.com's website. Cool Bananas!!! Rating: - about the DVDfilm/movie American Gigolo.............Singapore is also selling the same product as this and have already watch the copy. The story is basically about a woman interested in Julian (Richard Gere) and in the end Julian is involved in murder which the woman whom love her try to explain for him to the juridicial people whom is investigating in this case....etc and the story ended. Recommended to those whom are interested in this genre of DVDfilm/movie. American Gigolo Review by: Dr, MR Franc MBBS ... Read More Rating: - Los Angeles: The Movie.I couldn't agree more with many of the other criticisms regarding the shallowness of the romantic story or essential lack of sympathy for any of the characters. The thing that makes American Gigolo such a gem is that even this aspect of Paul Schrader's attempted New Wave/LA hybrid is corrupted by its material. And on a purely superficial level, the film perfectly captures just how a Southern California "tragedy" would unfold. Really quite brilliant, although I'm not sure all of it is intentional.
