Editorial Review: Product Description: When it was first published in 1967, The Outsiders defied convention with its immediate, deeply sympathetic portrayal of Ponyboy and his struggle to find a place for himself in a difficult world. Thirty years later, it speaks to teenagers as powerfully as ever. Amazon.com Review: According to Ponyboy, there are two kinds of people in the world: greasers and socs. A soc (short for "social") has money, can get away with just about anything, and has an attitude longer than a limousine. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. Ponyboy is a greaser, and he's always been proud of it, even willing to rumble against a gang of socs for the sake of his fellow greasers--until one terrible night when his friend Johnny kills a soc. The murder gets under Ponyboy's skin, causing his bifurcated world to crumble and teaching him that pain feels the same whether a soc or a greaser. This classic, written by S. E. Hinton when she was 16 years old, is as profound today as it was when it was first published in 1967. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Where YA Began...I credit Susan Eloise Hinton with writing the book (THE OUTSIDERS) which really began the modern YA novel. Amazingly still, she penned it at age 16. The fact that the 1967 book still sells like johnnycakes (inside joke) today is testament to the book's merit. What's more, it appeals equally to boys and girls. The book focuses on boys' gangs (Greasers vs. Socs), so boys identify with it, yet it also demonstrates a degree of sensitivity and love between the boys (both between the Curtis brothers ... Read More Rating: - i love this bookit was a great book, about a clash between "greasers" and "socs" and it follows what happens to the main character, Ponyboy. The book was impossible to put down and it even made me cry a little at times, but thats what a good book will do to you. I recommend this for teens because it has some violence and other things you may expect to find in a book about fights between gangs. This is a wonderful story of friendship and tragedy. Rating: - The Best Book EverI could not put the book down all day it never closed. It was interesting funny and heartbreaking all at the same time. Its a classic and I would recommend it to anyone who can read! Rating: - Outsiders is the bestThis book is a non-stop thriller. If you like action that never stops this is a book for you. The Outsiders has alot of turns and twists and it keeps you guesing about what it going to happen next. The ending of thid bok was kick in the face if you know what I mean, You don't expect alot of things to happen but yet they do. So if you like this kind of action then you should either buy, rent,or even if you can find it watch the movie. Rating: - A great book, but a little bit of a repetitive storyThe Outsiders is a classic tale of the struggles between two gangs in Oklahoma. The gang known as the "Greasers" are characterized by their long, silky, and greasy hair. This group is the lower class, but yet much smarter than the upper class. The upper class gang is the "Socs" or Socials. This story shows the life and tensions between these two gangs. After Johnny, a member of the Greasers kills a member of the Socs even greater tensions rise. This leads Johnny and Ponyboy, whom the ... Read More Browse for similar items by category:
