Here is my new/used Chevy 350. I decided that the stock form of the engine wasn't satisfactory, so I went shopping at Summit and Scott found some used parts collecting dust in someone's garage. Made a few good buys and had to buy a few things new. I am glad that I decided to change a few things. First thing was removing the stock Quadrajet in order to make room for my new/used Holley. Upon finding some rust in the intake we decided to remove it and found that the rust ran into the heads. We removed the heads on the drivers side and were pleased to find four finely polished cylinder walls, so we gave it a rest for a couple of days. I then went back to the shop to remove the heads from the other side and found a complete mess. Needless to say, I was disappointed. It was clear that the engine had not been run much since being rebuilt, except to set the timing, but it must have sat outside in the rain before being removed from the vehicle. I am waiting to find out if I can be reimbursed for the damage. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am hoping that it can be simply honed out but it may need re-bored.

Another pic of the intake.
Clean_heads.jpg (106361 bytes)
Here are the heads. There isn't any sludge on them. The pic doesn't do them justice
Clean_side.jpg (69551 bytes)
Here is the clean side of the engine. The cylinder walls were as smooth as glass. I don't know what the camera picked up.

This is from the other side. Look at that! It's plant life. This thing must have sat around for quite some time.

Here is the first thing that I saw. Lovely isn't it. Those clean areas are where we checked to see how well the rust would come off. I think that I am taking it to an engine shop.

Here is a real good close up to show you just how thick the rust is.

Another pic of the heads.

This is just a pic of the front of the block. At least something looks good

Here is the cam. Don't know how big it is, but it was a pain to remove.
